Patrons desiring reconsideration of any materials within the collection of the Fayette County Public Library may request and complete a “Patron Request for Reconsideration of Library Material” form.
If the Library Director is not available to receive the reconsideration form, library staff may take the form. Staff are to be polite, courteous and cooperative, but are to take no action or make any statement which will commit the Library Director or Library Board in any way. Each occurrence of this nature will be handled on a case-by-case, material-by-material basis.
The patron's request for reconsideration of library material will be submitted to a Staff Committee on Material Selection for consideration.
In accordance with the recognition of the rights of the individuals to challenge library materials in the Fayette County Public Library, the Board has adopted the following policy for dealing with those challenges:
- The patron must be a resident of Fayette County and hold a valid borrower’s card from the Fayette County Public Library.
- The form is to be completed in full by the patron and returned to the library director.
- The final decision for controversial library material shall rest with the Board after careful examination and discussion of the book or other library materials.
