1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Did you know that reading to your child is one of the most powerful ways to support early brain development? Sharing books helps children learn pre-reading skills like recognizing letter sounds, expanding their vocabulary, and building background knowledge.
Join Fayette County Public Library’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program!
A fun, free, and rewarding way to start your child on the path to lifelong learning.
For children from birth to age five.
Getting Started is Easy:
Register
Sign up at the library and pick up your program materials.
Track Your Reading
Tally each book you read with your child.
Every Book Counts
Read the same book multiple times? Count it each time! Books read at storytime, daycare, or by friends and family all count—as long as your child listens to the full book.
Celebrate Milestones
Earn rewards at each 100-book milestone. Special prizes at 100, 400, 700, and 1,000 books! Pick up a new log for each 100 books read.
Reach 1,000 Books
Celebrate with us at the library and take home a hardcover book as a special prize.
Keep on Reading
Even after reaching your goal, continue reading together—there’s always more to learn and enjoy!
More Than Just Books
Singing songs, saying rhymes, telling stories, and playing are all powerful ways to build your child’s early literacy skills. Visit the library often for free, educational, and fun programs—and to find great books to share.
How Long Does It Take?
It’s easier than you think!
- 1 book a night = 1,000 books in under 3 years
- 3 books a night = 1,000 books in just 1 year!
Our friendly library staff are always here to help with book suggestions and support.
Happy Reading,
